POWER AHEAD

The same championship-proven engine performance found in KX™ motocross bikes is what propels the KX™450X motorcycle. This updated 449cc 4-stroke fuel-injected engine delivers the type of hard-hitting power and a flat torque curve that encourages quick acceleration. Engine maps are optimized for cross-country racing and are now tunable, using the new RIDEOLOGY THE APP KX on your smartphone, to change power delivery to best suit riding conditions and personal preference.

Kawasaki TRaction Control (KTRC)

Using the Traction (T) button on the left handlebar, riders can quickly and easily select from two levels (Weak, Strong) of traction control to suit conditions and preference. Riders may also elect to turn the system off.

GAIN FULL CONTROL

Light and nimble handling is achieved thanks to the lean, lightweight chassis of the legendary KX™450 motocross bike. The new aluminum perimeter frame is lighter and features optimized rigidity balance for light nimble handling and increased front-end feel. The muffler has been repositioned for improved mass centralization resulting in lighter handling. The high-performance, race-ready suspension has been optimized for cross-country racing, especially on aggressive trails. New drilled Braking/Sunstar discs (270/240mm) paired with a Brembo caliper and master cylinder at the front and a Nissin caliper and master cylinder at the rear deliver strong stopping power and a high level of control.

QUICK-RELEASE SIDE COVER

Left side cover can be removed without tools, facilitating access to the air filter element. The element is now secured with quick-release hooks (previously a wing bolt), which makes changing the air filter a much simpler task—something that enduro or crosscountry racers will especially appreciate.

HIGH-PERFORMANCE BRAKES

Large-diameter, semifloating ø270 mm front disc is paired with a Brembo caliper and master cylinder. The combination offers strong front brake force as well as increased controllability that contributes to enhanced corner entry.

INCREASED WHEEL RIGIDITY

Based on feedback from our factory race teams, the KX450 features a larger-diameter rear hub (ø46 mm >> ø58 mm). The hub’s increased rigidity allows loads to be transferred more directly to the ground, contributing to greater rear-end traction.

DOWNDRAFT-STYLE INTAKE

Downdraft-style intake routing allows a very straight approach for intake air. The intake air’s approach angle into the cylinder is much steeper (approximately 40° vs the previous 20°), contributing to both cylinder-filling efficiency and engine power.

OPTIMISED ENGINE FLOW

Throttle body layout optimised to match the new symmetrically aligned intake and exhaust ports. With intake air coming in directly from behind the cylinder, the more even left-right balance contributes to increased intake efficiency.

Increased fuel pump pressure (300 kPa >> 350 kPa) contributes to improved driveability.

RACE-READY SUSPENSION

The New Uni Trak rear suspension system mounts the suspension arm below the swingarm, allowing a longer rear suspension stroke. The longer stroke in turn allows more precise rear suspension tuning.
